With the Federal Government yet to meet the demands made by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) students and lecturers alike are worried over possible strike action.
Recall that ASUP had issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Government to address the contentious new scheme of service for polytechnic lecturers across the country.
The ultimatum is set to expire by midnight of Wednesday, October 23, with the union threatening to embark on strike action at the expiration of the deadline given to the FG.
Speaking on the government’s failure to meet the union’s demand, ASUP’s Zone D coordinator, Iloma Richard said ASUP had earlier suspended action on July 22, with the hope of government intervention in the review of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
Richard said the strike was postponed to create the needed environment for the government to resolve the issues raised by the union.
“Regrettably, as I speak, no progress has been made in this direction due to the obvious reluctance of NBTE,” Richard said.
He also stated that the union would not hesitate to mobilise its members ahead of the expiration of the 15-day deadline handed to the Nigerian government.
