In a decisive move, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a ban on party organs at all levels from initiating disciplinary actions against party members without adhering to the provisions outlined in the PDP Constitution of 2017 (as amended).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the NWC reached this resolution during their recent meeting held in Abuja, as disclosed in an official statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, on Wednesday.
Hon. Ologunagba stated, “At its 571st meeting on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resolved to establish a Committee tasked with reviewing all reported cases of indiscipline and anti-party activities by certain Party members during the 2023 general elections.”
He further explained, “The decision of the NWC aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Party’s National Leadership to uphold discipline and foster comprehensive reconciliation within the Party.”
“This resolution of the NWC is pursuant to its powers under Section 29 (2) (a) and (b) and Section 31 (2) (c), (d) and (i) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
“Accordingly, the NWC hereby directs that no Organ of the Party at any level shall henceforth commence any disciplinary action against any member of the Party without due consideration and regard to the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
The NWC urges all members to remain steadfast in upholding the principles of our Party, a democratic organization governed by our Rules, Regulations, and Constitution, as we collectively strive for enduring reconciliation, discipline, and unity within our ranks.
Recall that the NWC recently nullified the suspension of Ahmed Makarfi, the former Acting National Chairman of the party.
Makarfi had been suspended by the ward executives of his Tudun Wada Ward on allegations of engaging in anti-party activities.
