JUST IN: PDP Clarifies Jonathan’s Party Membership

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a member of the party and has not resigned his membership.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, made the clarification on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he addressed speculation over potential candidates for the 2027 presidential election following the PDP’s decision to zone its ticket to the South.

“President Jonathan is still a member of this party because he has not resigned,” Ologunagba said.

He, however, declined to speak on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, stressing that Obi had not declared any intention to return to the PDP.

“Mr. Obi was a presidential candidate in the last election under another political party. He has not indicated that he is joining the PDP, so it would be improper for me to comment on that,” he added.

The PDP spokesman said the party remained confident in its array of “eminently qualified” members to lead Nigeria, pointing to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as an example.

“Governor Makinde is one of our poster boys in this party in terms of performance, capacity, and the ability to galvanise Nigerians. People see that promise in him and in the party,” Ologunagba stated.

He said that the PDP was focused on presenting strong candidates drawn from its pool of performing governors and leaders, adding that Nigerians could already recognise their capacity for national leadership.
