A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has appointed Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).

Hon. Isah Dansidi was also appointed Secretary of the factional BoT, replacing Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

The new BoT was inaugurated on Friday in Abuja by the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.

According to a communiqué issued after the inauguration, Wabara and Makarfi were replaced to preserve the “neutrality, integrity, and moral authority” of the board, following their publicly declared positions in the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP.

The communiqué, jointly signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, stated:

“The Board noted that the immediate past BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, having publicly taken positions in the ongoing intra-party crisis, can no longer continue to serve in their previous capacities in order to preserve the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT.

“Accordingly, the Board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa from the South and Hon. Isah Dansidi from the North as Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees respectively.”

The Board thanked the outgoing officials for their service and wished them well.

It also commended party stakeholders for their resilience amid recent challenges and called for continued maturity, unity, and commitment to peace.

The BoT reaffirmed its resolve to promote internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness in the PDP.

“The Board affirms that only through adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), the Electoral Act, INEC Guidelines, the Party Constitution, and mutual respect can the PDP continue to serve as a custodian of Nigeria’s democratic ideals,” the statement added.
