PDP chairmanship race hots up as former Niger state governor indicates interest

The race for the chairmanship position of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified with the entry of a former Governor of Niger State into the contest.

Former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu has thrown his hat into the ring, adding another dimension to the already competitive race for the party’s leadership.

Aliyu’s entry into the race adds a significant heavyweight contender, given his political experience and influence, particularly within the party’s ranks.

As a former governor and prominent figure in the PDP, his candidacy is likely to reshape the dynamics of the chairmanship contest.

With Aliyu’s participation, the PDP chairmanship race is expected to become even more fiercely contested as aspirants jostle for support and endorsements from party members and stakeholders nationwide.

He is expected to slug it out with a former Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki and a former governor of Benue state, Senator Gabriel Suswam.

The PDP is set to hold its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting next week after about 18 months.

The NEC is the highest decision-making body of the main opposition party.
