Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, have made an appearance today at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the duo had previously been in court on Tuesday, where the five-member panel decided to adjourn proceedings until today, Wednesday, May 31st.
Among those present in court to witness the day’s proceedings is Festus Keyamo, the former Minister of State for Labour, who attended for the first time on Tuesday.
During Tuesday’s resumed hearing, Peter Obi and the Labour Party had called their first witness to the stand as they continued their efforts to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25th election.
Before the witness, a lawyer from Anambra, testified, Jibrin Okutepa, counsel to Peter Obi, submitted a judgment from a district court in the United States. The judgment reportedly implicated Tinubu in drug-related offences and ordered the forfeiture of $460,000.
The hearing began with Okutepa leading the presentation of evidence, during which Lawrence Nwakaeti, a lawyer based in Anambra and a witness for the LP, submitted the certified true copy of the US district court judgment.
Eyitayo Jegede, counsel for Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, also submitted various exhibits, including certified true copies of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of results, a summary of results, and a printout of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) report for each polling unit in the 36 states.
Additionally, they presented the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in all states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Furthermore, the court adjourned the hearing of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) petition until June 2nd.
This extension was granted to allow the court to examine the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment dated May 26th regarding the controversy surrounding the “double nomination” of Vice President Kashim Shettima and assess its impact on the APM’s petition.
The Presidential Election Petitions Court reconvened after a week on Tuesday to initiate the final hearing in the petitions lodged by the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), along with their respective parties. Their petitions challenge Tinubu’s triumph in the February 25th election.
