Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has explained the reason behind his absence at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which was held in Daura on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Fidau prayers held in honour of the late president on Wednesday, Obi stated that logistical challenges prevented him from arriving earlier.
“It was difficult for me to get to Daura yesterday,” he said. “There was no flight. Anyone who comes even tomorrow is still part of the mourning.”
Obi, along with other political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, arrived in Daura on Wednesday to pay their respects and condole with the late president’s family.
The dignitaries also visited the graveyard where Buhari was laid to rest, joining in prayers for the repose of his soul.
