JUST IN: Peter Obi slams Tinubu over frequent foreign trips

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as excessive time spent outside Nigeria.

Obi said the president left the country for France barely six days after returning from a 15-day trip, noting that this marks his 10th visit to the European country in two years.

He said it was troubling that Tinubu appeared to be “running away from Nigeria at every slight opportunity” while citizens battle worsening hardship.

The former Anambra governor cited reports that 79 percent of Nigerians face food insecurity, while the country has been ranked the worst place to give birth and to live.

He added that at least 50 people were killed and 60 kidnapped in recent attacks in Katsina, while 60 more died in a boat mishap in Niger state this week.

Obi wondered why the president did not visit the affected states before leaving again, asking: “Where is the compassion for Nigerian lives, Mr President? How many more need to die for you to preside over the country?”

He said “no holiday is more important than Nigerian lives” and called for leadership that prioritises security, healthcare, education, and poverty reduction.
