BREAKING: Court adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s case to January for the second time [See new date]

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday adjourned the trial of the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu till January 18, 2022.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Kanu’s case was originally scheduled to be heard next year, but the court on Wednesday granted an abridgement of time after a motion was filed by the Nigerian separatist leader. This allowed for an emergency hearing today, Thursday.

Justice Nyako had on November 10, 2021, adjourned the trial of Kanu till January 19 and 20, 2022, for trial. But the court yesterday granted an abridgement of time after a motion was filed in that respect and his matter was again heard today (Thursday).

Kanu was absent in court.

One of his lawyers, Aloy Ejimakor, told journalists that part of the things that was heard is the application for his bail, among others. Ejimakor also said it is not mandatory for Kanu to be in court for the bail application hearing.

Earlier, there were expectations that the IPOB leader would be making an unscheduled appearance in court today.

There was little presence of security operatives, which is unusual with Kanu’s court appearances.

Nnamdi Kanu is facing charges bordering on alleged terrorism and treasonable felony.

    1. Why are Nigeria government wasting the time of this sinless man like they did to Elzakizaki, they wasted his time for six good year. What goes round comes round. There’s God ooo.

  1. It is well. We will not preempt the court, since the emergency court process give his legal team to submit a bail application, that could be a precursor to his release.
I think the tension is easing up and those high up may have started thinking of a truly legal way to do this without creating the impression of naming a dog a bad name in order to kill it.
I pray that the Almighty Jehovah will grant us all His enduring peace and give the true liberty of men as He planned from the day creation, in Jesus Christ name. Amen
