JUST IN: Plateau State Assembly Sacks Langtang North LG Chairman, Hon. Zulfa

The Plateau State House of Assembly has taken action against Hon. Zulfa Rinven, the embattled Chairman of Langtang North Local Government.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Assembly passed a motion on Tuesday demanding his immediate removal from office, warning that failure to comply could result in his arrest.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba addressed the press in Jos following the plenary session. In his address, he announced the decision to reinstate Hon. Ubandoma Laven as the rightful Chairman of Langtang North Local Government.

The Assembly has directed the Police Commissioner to unseal the Council secretariat, allowing Hon. Laven to assume his constitutional duties immediately.

The legal battle over the chairmanship position began when the courts ruled that Zulfa Rinven’s election was unlawful, as there was already a sitting Chairman, Hon. Laven Ubandoma of the PDP, before Rinven contested the election under the APC.

Despite the court order, Rinven remained in office, reportedly with the protection of the police.

Rt. Hon. Abok emphasised that Rinven was occupying the seat illegitimately and urged him to vacate the position immediately.

The Speaker further stated that if the Police Commissioner failed to adhere to the Assembly’s directive, the House would consider submitting a motion to the National Assembly to address the matter and hold the Commissioner accountable.

Regarding the previous sealing of the House by the State Police Command, Rt. Hon. Abok firmly asserted that the police had exceeded their authority in taking such action.

He attributed the disturbances in the House to the past administration and expressed confidence in the newly elected Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, who he described as a knowledgeable lawyer dedicated to justice and upholding the rule of law.
