Police operatives in Katsina foiled a kidnapping attempt, rescued the victims, and recovered one operational motorcycle from suspected bandits in the state.
Spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, said the incident occurred along Baure Village road in Kankara LGA at about 6:30 pm on Tuesday.
“The police intervened after the Kankara Police Divisional Headquarters received a report that some suspected armed bandits had attacked motorists with the intent to kidnap them,” he said.
“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO Kankara, CSP Hassan Musa, mobilised a team of operatives to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel, according to the statement.”
Apart from repelling the attack, the police rescued one person whom the bandits had already taken captive before their arrival.
Sadid added that in reaction to the feat, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their outstanding displays of bravery, dedication, and professionalism.
Musa said efforts were in top gear to arrest fleeing suspects, advising members of the public to promptly report anybody seen with a bullet wound, as some of the suspects escaped the scene with gunshot injuries.
He also residents of the state, to continue to provide the command and other security agencies in the state with timely information on suspected criminal activities, to enable swift and decisive action against any recalcitrant criminal in the state.
