The Edo State Police Command has re-arrested Jacob Alone, a 58-year-old individual who had escaped from custody during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.
Alone, who had initially been apprehended in 2020 on charges of rape and defilement of his daughter, was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment following his trial in court.
However, during the trial, the victim tragically lost her life in a motor accident while en route to provide evidence in court.
The police said in a statement: ”The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the public about the recent re-arrest of Jacob Alone, a 58-year-old individual who escaped from custody during the 2020 #EndSARS protest in Benin City.
”Jacob Alone was initially arrested in 2020 for the heinous crime of rape and defilement of his own daughter, resulting in her pregnancy. Following his arrest, he was charged to court and subsequently sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.
”Unfortunately, during the course of his trial, the victim, who was his daughter, tragically lost her life in a motor accident while on her way to give evidence in court.
”Through diligent intelligence gathering efforts, the Edo State Police Command successfully re-arrested Jacob Alone. Given the gravity of his crimes and the danger he poses to society, it is imperative that he be returned to the appropriate judicial custody.
”The Edo State Police Command reassures the public of our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest law enforcement agency.”
