The Nigerian presidency has come out to address the notion that President Bola Tinubu is influencing the judiciary and other government institutions.
According to Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, President Tinubu wants to be seen as a leader who allows systems and institutions to function independently.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily programme, Bwala stated that the president is committed to projecting himself as a leader who respects the autonomy of institutions. This, he explained, is in line with President Tinubu’s vision of allowing systems to work themselves out, rather than interfering with their operations.
Bwala’s comments were in response to concerns that President Tinubu is not taking a firm stance on issues like corruption.
The questioner said critics have questioned why the president has not taken firmer actions to establish a precedent for future leaders.
When asked why the president is not wielding his authority to ensure that systems work efficiently, Bwala reiterated that President Tinubu’s approach is centred on allowing institutions to function independently, even though it may take time.
