JUST IN: President Buhari reappoints Ben Akabueze as DG Budget Office

President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Benjamin Akabueze as the Director-General (DG) of the Budget Office of the Federation. A statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance said Akabueze’s tenure, which will expire June 10th, 2020, has been renewed.

The statement said Akabueze is carrying out reforms in the Budget Office “towards improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the Budget office of the Federation.”

It added that Akabueze’s tenure was renewed “for another term in order to institutionalise the achievements for a sustainable improvement in the Budget Office of the Federation.”

Akabueze was first appointed as a Special Adviser Planning (SAP) to the President on February 15th, 2016 and later re-deployed and appointed as DG Budget, June 10th, 2016.

His current tenure

He was then appointed by President Buhari to handle the nagging issues in the Budget office at that time.

A statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance read; “President Muhammadu Buhari as approved the renewal of the tenure of Mr Benjamin Akabueze as Director-General (DG) of the Budget Office of the Federation.”

“Mr Akabueze, popularly known as Ben, was first appointed as a Special Adviser Planning (SAP) to the President on February 15th, 2016 and later re-deployed & appointed as DG Budget, June 10th, 2016 by Mr President, to handle the nagging issues in the Budget office at that time.” it read in part.

The statement signed by Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, special assistant on media to the honourable minister of finance, budget and planning, praised Akabueze adding that the budget office was undergoing serious reform under his administration.
