The Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) has announced the demise of its President, Mr. Emeka Ogbu.
Prof. Mohammed Bawa, currently serving as the association’s Acting President, confirmed the sad news to reporters in Jos.
Ogbu, Director of Sports at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), breathed his last on Monday after a brief illness, according to Prof. Bawa’s disclosure to the media on Wednesday.
Elected to the presidency of NUGA in March 2022, Bawa said Ogbu was known for his dedication to sports and higher education.
He noted that his leadership within the association marked a significant period in advancing university sports programs and fostering athletic development among Nigerian universities.
He added that the sudden passing of Ogbu has left a void within the NUGA community, and his contributions to the promotion of sports within the university sphere will be remembered and honoured by colleagues, athletes, and the wider academic fraternity across Nigeria.
