Simon Lalong, Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, has officially tendered his resignation to President Bola Tinubu and is set to be inducted to the Senate as the elected representative of Plateau South Senatorial District.
Lalong’s departure from the cabinet was confirmed by the Presidency.
This follows an appeal court ruling on November 7, 2023, which declared him the rightful winner of the Plateau South senatorial seat. While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declared his opponent as the winner, Lalong successfully challenged the result, leading to a favourable decision for him by the court.
“Lalong has resigned. But it was not at the FEC meeting itself. It must have been after the meeting because, if it were earlier, the President or SGF would have announced it during the meeting,” a presidential aide told PUNCH.

I am surprised to hear that Along choose to become a senator representing his constituency rather than be a federal minister to serve the entire nation.
