The planned decoration of Colonel Nurudeen Yusuf, Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to President Bola Tinubu as a Brigadier-General has been halted.

Ahead of the planned decoration, Minister of Defence, Lt-Gen Chris Musa (rtd), and Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, were said to have cut short an official visit to Lagos state and returned to Abuja.

However, two former Chiefs of Army Staff close to the poresident were said to have persuaded Tinubu to shelve the promotion, warning of the implications for military order and discipline.

Military sources said the proposed promotion had drawn criticism from experts who described it as a dangerous precedent.

“He got the president to sign a memo for the promotion of officers who were due for retirement after failing three times as specified by their rules.

“When the president was told of the implications regarding rule, he withdrew the memo but nonetheless asked that the officers be allowed to remain in service, citing the emergency he just declared; they are still in service, I understand,” a military source told The Cable.
