JUST IN: President Tinubu seeks screening, confirmation of new service chiefs by Senate

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, wrote to the Nigerian Senate to seek the confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs.

The president in a letter addressed to the Senate appealed got the screening and confirmation of the service chiefs.

The letter was read on the floor of the plenary by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, October 28.

The president‘s letter said the Service Chiefs due to screening and confirmation include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye.

After reading the letter to members of the Nigerian Senate, Akpabio further referred it to the committee of the whole for screening and confirmation of the nominees.

He also announced that the screening of the newly appointed service chiefs will take place next week.

Recall that the president had announced the appointment of the service chiefs on October 24, following the sack of General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff.

The presidency, in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy Musa was replaced by Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, who until the new appointment was Chief of Army Staff.

Also, Shaibu was appointed as Chief of Army Staff while Aneke and Abbass will take the position of CAS and CNS respectively.
