The Agura of Gbagura, Egbaland, Abeokuta, Oba Saburee Babajide Isola Bakre, and Jamolu II has passed away.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the news of his demise filtered in on Wednesday evening, revealing that the revered monarch, the 9th Agura of Gbagura, fell ill on Tuesday afternoon.
He was promptly admitted to a hospital in Abeokuta, the name of which remains undisclosed. However, due to the severity of his condition, he was subsequently transferred to a different medical facility in Lagos later that same day.
Chief Rasaq Adesola Obe, the Balogun Ijayekukudi Traditional Council of Chiefs and Administrative Secretary to the Agura Palace, delivered the announcement in the early hours of Thursday.
The official statement read as follows: “The Osi of Egbaland and Balogun of Ibadan Township Gbagura Abeokuta has entrusted me with the solemn duty of informing you that His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Saburee Babajide Bakre Jamolu II, the Agura of Gbagura, peacefully passed away today, on the 14th of June, 2023.”
“May Kabiyesi ‘soul rest in perfect peace. May Almighty Allah Grant His Family and Gbagura Chiefs, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Amen.”
