The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday said its operatives were attacked during an operation to arrest a major drug kingpin at Petty Area of Lagos Island.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that there was pandemonium when operatives of the agency stormed areas including Patey, Dumare, Tapa, Freeman and its environs.
In several videos shared on the social networking service, Twitter, many residents scampered for safety.
In one of the videos seen by this newspaper, there were sporadic shootings as hoodlums engaged the NDLEA operatives.
“A lot of fake narratives have been going on on what happened at Petty area of Lagos Island earlier today. Please disregard them. Truth is our operatives went for the arrest of a major drug kingpin and we got her and 5 others with almost 6,000kg of drugs despite attacks on our men,” a post on NDLEA’s official Twitter handle reads.
NDLEA is a Federal law enforcement agency in Nigeria under the Federal Ministry of Justice charged with eliminating the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting, and trafficking of hard drugs. The agency was established by Decree Number 48 of 1989.
The NDLEA is present in international airports, seaports, and border crossings. It also targets the leaders of narcotics and money laundering organizations.
