Several prominent figures, including Reno Omokri, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and others appeared at the National Assembly on Thursday for their Senate screening as ambassadorial nominees.

Former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau was also present during the exercise.

The screening follows President Bola Tinubu’s submission of a 32-member ambassadorial nominees’ list to the Senate on 29 November, which includes 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career nominees.

According to the Presidency, the nominees will be assigned to countries with which Nigeria maintains diplomatic relations, as well as to international organisations such as the United Nations.

The list features notable political figures such as the former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, ex-governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, and ex-Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode.

Four women were included among the career ambassadors, while six were listed as non-career nominees.

Since the announcement of the nominations, the list has drawn scrutiny and criticism, particularly over the inclusion of former political office-holders.
