Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has raised alarm that the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II is being held illegally in a small apartment in Awe, Nassarawa State.
Chidoka, in a statement on Thursday on his Facebook Page, revealed that he has spoken with Sanusi, who confirmed that he is still being held in Awe town.
“Contrary to speculations, Emir Sanusi confirmed to me that he is still in Awe, Nasarawa State.”
“He is held unconstitutionally and illegally and no agency of government is taking responsibility for his unlawful arrest.”
“A track record of violating fundamental rights is upon us”.
This newspaper earlier reported that the Emir was sacked and exiled to Nassarawa state by the Kano State government. The development is an aftermath of a long feud between the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Sanusi.
The former Emir was first initially whisked away to Loko area of Nassarawa state before being taken to Awe.
His removal has generated a massive outcry from Nigerians on Social Media with many calling for Sanusi’s reinstatement. A petition launched on Change.org has garnered close to 10,000 signatures in support of former traditional ruler.
