Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has presented the staff of office to the 15th Oniru of Iru kingdom, Oba Gbolahan Lawal.
The governor presented the staff of office to the new monarch barely three days after the Kingmakers and elders of Iruland selected him to be the new King after the throne became vacate last year after the 14th Oniru, Oba Idowu Oniru, joined his ancestors.
At the ceremony held within the kingdom on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu charged the new monarch to sustain the peace and harmonious relationship that had existed in the land.
The governor, who described the traditional institutions as the first systems of governance, stated that it would forever remain a strong link to Nigeria’s heritage at all times.
Sanwo-Olu said Oba Lawal was a prosperous monarch, saying he has no doubt that his reign will usher in peace and development in Iruland.
Speaking after he was presented with the instrument of office by Governor, the new Oniru promised to be fair to all those who contested the stool with him. He also assured all daughters and sons of Oniru Royal Family that the palace is open to all of them.
Oba Lawal also extended hands of fellowship to Prince Hakeem Ajasa and Prince Adesegun Oniru, urging them to join him to further develop the Iruland.
