JUST IN: Security beefed in Kano as police alert residents on possible terrorist threats

The Kano State Police Command has issued a warning to residents, citing intelligence reports about a potential terrorist plot to target public gatherings in key locations across the state.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police urged the public to avoid crowded areas for the time being to allow security agencies to assess and address any threats effectively.

The statement read: “The Kano State Police Command, in partnership with other security agencies, has received intelligence reports of suspected terrorists planning attacks on public gatherings in strategic locations within Kano State.

“As a precautionary measure, we urge residents to exercise caution and stay away from crowded places until further notice.”

To counter the threat, SP Kiyawa said the police have deployed specialized teams, including experts from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear units, to key locations.

He said the teams are on high alert, and the public is encouraged to report suspicious individuals or items to the authorities using the provided contact numbers.

Residents are also advised to report any unusual activities to the nearest police station or contact the Command directly through its emergency hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.

The police reassured the public of their commitment to peace and security in the state.
