Security operatives have taken over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, following an alleged plot by suspected arsonists to burn down the facility.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that a combined team of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army and other security outfits were deployed to the INEC office premises with armoured personnel carriers to prevent any invasion.
The post office, adjacent to the INEC office, was reportedly deserted due to the heavy security presence. Vehicular movement was also restricted, with motorists forced to divert to other routes, particularly those heading towards Abuja, Nataco, and Felele.
This development comes amid a political feud between two major parties in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with one accusing the other of sponsoring thugs to destroy election materials stored at the INEC office.
