JUST IN: Senate Takes Action on Rivers 2025 Budget

The Senate has approved the Second reading of the Rivers State 2025 budget.

The ₦1,480,662,592,442 trillion budget was presented by Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who noted that the Senate assumed control of the state’s legislative functions following the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

Supporting the motion, Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan stressed the importance of acting swiftly.

He said, “Mr. President, I am not exactly sure under what title this document is categorised, but from what I can see, it pertains to a budget under the state of emergency. I hereby support its passage for second reading so that the people of Rivers can feel the presence of government.”

With no dissenting voices, Senate President Godswill Akpabio called a voice vote, after which the budget was referred to the Ad-hoc Committee on Overseeing the Rivers State of Emergency for further legislative work.

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), is expected to appear before a Joint National Assembly Ad-hoc Committee, along with key officials, to defend the budget.
