There are indications that former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Yari has allied with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senators-elect.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this is following reports that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), asked him to step down from the Senate presidency race.
Shortly after it was made public that former Akwa Ibom State governor Godswill Akpabio was the APC’s consensus candidate for Senate President, Yari was spotted with opposition PDP Senators-elect.
Yari was seen in Bayelsa today attending the funeral of Pa Abraham Diri, the late father of Governor Douye Diri, alongside Senator-elect Governor Tambuwal.
It is reported that Yari met with several senators, including Sen. Hassan Lawal Anka (Zamfara West), Sen. Shehu Buba (Bauchi South), Sen. Ned Nwoko, Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim, Sen. Francis Fadahunsi, and Hon. Gwalalo, among others.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmed Idris Wase was also in attendance with the PDP members.
It is understood that Wase, like Yari, has refused to withdraw from the race to be the Speaker of the House of Representatives after President-elect Bola Tinubu settled for Rt. Hon. TJ Abass.
This newspaper reported earlier that former Senate Leader Senator Ali Ndume, Chairman of Senate Appropriation Committee Senator Jubrin Barau, and outgoing Governor of Ebonyi State Dave Umahi had agreed upon a consensus candidate being, Godswill Akpabio for the Senate presidency in the interest of peace and national interest.
