FG Has No Business Distributing Grains – Obaseki Charges Workers to Stop ‘Palliative Fraud’

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has thrown his weight behind the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in its nationwide protests against the federal government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that while addressing aggrieved workers in the state on Wednesday, Obaseki called on the federal government to stop what he called a “palliative fraud” by distributing grains and other palliatives to Nigerians to ameliorate the effects of the fuel price hike.

The federal government has no business buying grains and giving contracts to buy palliatives for people across the 774 local governments in Nigeria,” Obaseki said. “We must stop this fraud!”

The governor urged the NLC to continue its protests until the federal government reverses its decision to remove fuel subsidies.

In Edo state, we are labour friendly,” Obaseki said. “We must stop this palliative fraud of the federal government.”

The NLC is leading nationwide protests against the fuel subsidy removal announced by the government announced.

The federal government has said the removal of fuel subsidy is necessary to save money for more important initiatives. However, many say that it disproportionately affects the poor and middle class.

The protests are scheduled to continue until the federal government reverses its decision, according to NLC.
