JUST IN: Several people trapped as one-storey building collapses in Minna

A one-storey building located in the New Market Area of Minna, the Niger State capital, collapsed on Friday, trapping several individuals inside. 

Emergency officials promptly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued seven people, who are now receiving treatment at the Minna General Hospital.

The manual evacuation of debris has begun, with authorities planning to deploy machinery to aid in rescuing those still trapped. The exact cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time.

Hussaini Ibrahim, Director of Information and Special Duties at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing. 

Additionally, Bako Ismail, General Manager of the Niger State Urban Development Board, stated that the building was illegally converted into a one-storey structure. 

He mentioned that the board had repeatedly attempted to halt the illegal conversion by the property owner.
