Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have arrested a suspected gun-runner and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Taraba state.
The army said the operation was part of ongoing efforts under Operation Lafiya Nakowa to rid the state of criminal elements and illegal arms.
In a statement on Wednesday, Umar Muhammad, acting assistant director, army public relations for the 6 Brigade, said the operation was conducted on November 12, 2025, at Shagada village in Namnai ward, Gassol LGA, following credible intelligence.
He identified the suspect as Abdulmudallabi Audu, a 25-year-old, who was found in possession of arms and ammunition. Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 53 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in the custody of 6 Brigade Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution,” Muhammad said.

He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations across Taraba to ensure peace and security in the state and adjoining regions.
