JUST IN: Sowore arrives Federal High Court ahead of bail ruling

Politician and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of the ruling on his bail application, set for today, Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Sowore, who was accompanied by his legal team, was met by a crowd of supporters outside the courthouse.

The demonstrators demanded his release and condemned the 16 cybercrime charges against him, which Sowore’s referred to IGP Kayode Egbetokun as an “Illegal IG.”

Detained at the Nigerian Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office since Monday, Sowore had refused to accept police-imposed bail conditions.

His lawyer, Abubakar Marshal, urged the court to grant him bail on self-recognizance, arguing that Sowore voluntarily honoured a police invitation sent via WhatsApp.

The prosecution, however, opposed the bail request. After hearing arguments on Wednesday, the judge adjourned the case to 1 PM Thursday for a ruling.
