The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore has reacted to his arrest and subsequent release by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Sowore was picked up by the NIS upon his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos Sunday morning.
Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) some days ago, declared the Sahara Reporters publisher wanted and gave an order to airport security and immigration authorities for his arrest as soon as he returns to the country.
Newly appointed DSS boss, Adeola Ajayi gave the order for Sowore’s arrest following the role he played in the recent 10 days #EndBadGovernance protests.
Reacting to his detention and confiscation of his passport by NIS, Sowore took to his X handle and said his arrest was not unexpected.
According to him, he had known that it was part of the broader clampdown by the “fascist Bola Tinubu’s regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober revolt.”
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that after the DSS had declared him wanted, Sowore had blasted the secret police and vowed to return to the country, which he has now done.
