The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has revealed that Yoruba Nation Activist, Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho is currently in prison because he failed to be ‘patient’ and listen to advice.
The Ooni disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had prevailed on him to warn Igboho, adding that the activist was advised but he did not listen and instead opted to be carried away by the praises of “those who were not solidly behind him”.
He told BBC Yoruba; “Like I have always told the government, they should have called the agitators for a dialogue. God will stay with Sunday Igboho; he grew up in Ife; all that he has become today, started from Ife. Ife and Modakeke all belong to Ife land. He is a son of the soil.”
“But how he started, he wanted to fight for his kinsmen from where he came from. He stood up and fought for those killed in Oke Ogun. We thank God for preserving his life. He tried his best but when he started receiving different advice from people, it overwhelmed him.”
“I visited President Buhari on his case and we discussed it. I told him that Igboho is our son; he advised us to warn him to stay calm and exercise patience but Igboho did not listen.”
“Many people advised him wrongly. He listened to them. He started abusing everyone, including monarchs. After I left President Buhari’s place, I called on monarchs and elders of Yoruba land for a meeting to advise Igboho to exercise patience but he got carried away by the praises of those who were not even solidly behind him.”
“He hurled so many bad words but he is still our son. God owns forgiveness. We’ve forgiven him. If he had listened, he wouldn’t have found himself in his current travail. We are trying our best to secure his release.”
I want him to be forgiven, please work for his released
Good news
I wonder why the Ooni of Ife did not warn the terrorizing invading herdsmen and their sponsors while Yoruba forests were under siege? Does he have a personal issue with Igboho who is seen by many victimized Yorubas as their patriot and liberator? A case of envy which arose between King Saul and David? What favour does he want to gain by betraying Igboho as a sacrificial lamb?
Igboho, maybe is just like president buhari in listen.
Ooni , l weak for you . So you feel that Sunday lgboho has acted wrongly by sacking the terrorist herders from your land , & asking for the imancipation of your people ? This is a betrayal of the Yoruba nation , & her youths in particular .
I doubt if you’re speaking the minds of the Yoruba . May be , I’m wrong in my assessment of the present day situation of things in Nigeria. May be , the Yorubas are fairly treated , & Sunday Igboho is crying wolves for nothing .. May be , Sunday Igboho is acting a script , since, recently, a Yoruba group has come up to claim that he has pledgied to abandon the Yoruba Nation cause if he would be granted amnesty .
What actually is happening ? Who is deceiving who ? Is it you , Ooni , deceiving the Yorubas , or Igboho deceiving his people . Or are the Yoruba deceiving other Nigerians ?
Oh ! Is the table turning now because of the promise of the presidential barton to Tinibu/Osibanjo . Ooni now loves one Nigeria more than her founding fathers .
We are just watching the unfolding drama, as I foresee cries of disappointments ..
A leader is a leader no matter what comes.
Sunday Igboho is a leader. I pray God almighty will sustain him and back him up. In whatever situation he might be now, I believe he will come back to testify and Oodua nation is coming to stay. Enough is enough. We do not want to remain slaves in our father’s land any more.
