JUST IN: Super Eagles Held in Crucial World Cup Qualifier Against South Africa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were forced to settle for a draw in the World Cup qualifier against South Africa at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The hosts took the lead in the 25th minute from an own goal by defender William Troost-Ekong.

Nigeria responded just before halftime. In the 44th minute, Calvin Bassey rose highest during a set-piece to head home the equaliser.

Despite a lively second half filled with chances at both ends, neither side was able to break the deadlock.

The result leaves Nigeria under pressure in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with only two matches left to secure a direct ticket to the tournament.

South Africa, meanwhile, remains at the top of the group, edging closer to their first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.
