Super Eagles players and officials on Tuesday boycotted their training session ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff match against Gabon on Thursday.

The development was confirmed by Nigerian photojournalist Sulaiman ‘Pooja’ Adebayo, who is in Morocco covering the tournament.

He stated in a post on X that the boycott was triggered by unresolved payment issues between the team and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“Super Eagles players & officials boycott training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments,” Adebayo wrote.

The team’s action, reportedly a last resort to compel the federation to settle outstanding wages, could jeopardise Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals in North America.

Nigeria is set to face Gabon in the semi-final on Thursday. If victorious, the Super Eagles will play the winner of the other semi-final between Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
