The Director of Information of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Dr. Festus Aweneri, has said that the new acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola, was born in 1954 and not 1958.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Aweneri also stated that the new CJN started his primary school education in 1959.
The clarification by Aweneri comes amid controversies about Ariwoola’s age, with a Wikipedia page of his biography indicating his year of birth as 1958 as against what is contained in his official records.
Now, the Supreme Court has cleared the air on the contention, according to Vanguard.
Justice Ariwoola who took his oath of office on Monday is expected to serve in an acting capacity for a maximum of three months until confirmation by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the National Assembly (NASS).
At the swearing-in ceremony in the presidential villa, the acting CJN swore to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
