JUST IN: Teacher injured as old primary school collapses in Rivers community

A partially collapsed school building in Oyorokoto community, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, has left a teacher injured, raising fresh concerns about the safety of educational facilities in the region.

The incident happened on Tuesday at Community Primary School, Oyorokoto, while the teacher was reportedly in the classroom conducting a lesson.

“The ugly incident happened yesterday (Tuesday) at Oyorokoto community, Andoni, while the teacher was said to be in class teaching,” the report said.

Eyewitnesses said a section of the deteriorating school building suddenly collapsed, triggering panic among teachers and pupils.

According to *Connect Andoni*, the affected structure had long been in a state of neglect and disrepair.

Despite the clear risks, teachers continued using the building due to a lack of alternative classrooms and a strong commitment to ensuring children in the riverine community had access to basic education.

The injured teacher, like many others, was reportedly driven by dedication to the academic needs of the pupils, even in unsafe conditions.

Residents of the community are now calling on the Rivers State Government and relevant education authorities to urgently renovate the school and prevent further disasters.
