JUST IN: Tension at APC Headquarters After Adamu’s Shock Resignation

The National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is abuzz with activity as party members and staff reacted to Adamu’s resignation.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the atmosphere was tense, with some people expressing anger and others expressing sadness.

“It is good that he is gone. He has inflicted pain and misery to several staff since he resumed here. We have prayed for a day like this and thank God our prayers have been answered today. Let him go because we are tired of him,” Daily Sun reported a secretariat staff as saying.

Adamu reportedly submitted his resignation letter to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Sunday afternoon. The letter was addressed to President Bola Tinubu, who is currently out of the country for an African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

A source close to Adamu said that the national chairman resigned following a “gang up” by people around the president to embarrass him during the party’s National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, which are scheduled to take place on Monday(today) and Wednesday.

Another source, who is a founding member of the APC, claimed that Adamu resigned because two influential members of the party were mobilising against him ahead of the NEC

It is unclear who will succeed Adamu as National Chairman. However, the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Kyari, is currently leading the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in a closed-door meeting.
