Suspected kidnappers have kidnapped a Catholic priest from Otukpo Diocese.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the victim, identified as Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu, holds the position of parish priest at St. Margaret’s Parish, Ajegbe Awume, located in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to an eyewitness, who introduced himself as Oche, the incident unfolded late in the evening, around 10 p.m., when armed men infiltrated the Awume community.
The assailants wasted no time and headed straight to the premises of the church, where they forcefully seized the clergyman before making their escape.
Describing the incident, Oche shared, “Yesterday (Thursday) night at 10 p.m., some gunmen stormed Ajegbe Awume, Ohimini Benue State. The kidnappers went to the church premises and kidnapped the Rev. Father in Charge of St. Margaret Parish.”
SP Catherine Anene, the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Command, verified the occurrence when reached for comment.
Anene acknowledged, “The information reached us this morning (Friday), and we are actively investigating the matter.”
