Amid the tension in Rivers State, which has led to the resignation of more than seven commissioners, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said the oil-rich state is safe for business.
His remarks came during the flag-off ceremony for a 20,000-unit housing project in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
“Rivers State is a haven for investment,” Fubara declared. “What you hear on the radio or see on TV – ‘Rivers State is not safe, there is a crisis’ – is not the truth. Rivers State is safe and secure for anyone to come and invest. Your investment is safe in our hands.”
However, the state has been embroiled in tension following the escalation of a bitter feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.
This led to the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier in the week.
Adding to the chaos, Governor Fubara ordered the demolition of the Assembly complex just two months after part of it was set on fire. He justified the move by citing structural integrity concerns.
