President Bola Tinubu has given a fresh directive to security chiefs, demanding “conclusive victory” in the fight against multiple threats plaguing the country.
The president gave the directive while speaking at a security briefing in Abuja. He acknowledged progress in tackling some security issues but warned that success hinges on achieving a final, decisive win.
“Nigerians are seeing the progress,” Tinubu said, “but the avoidable errors, like the recent incident in Kaduna, are unacceptable and must not be repeated.” He said there is need for continued coordination and vigilance, stressing that celebrations will come only after “we can bring our troops home, free up resources, and fully focus on economic expansion.”
The President outlined ambitious goals for the armed forces, including boosting crude oil production to a sustainable two million barrels per day by the first quarter of 2024. He warned that failure is not an option under his leadership, and that “all malign actors, both internal and external, will be aggressively pursued and brought to justice.”
He said, “I do not play with my intelligence reports. I have multiple lines of sight. The Navy and sister branches must step up their game to achieve our aims for the benefit of all Nigerians. All malign actors will be aggressively uprooted from our midst. Those working against the national agenda from within and without will meet justice. Your task is clear. We will sustain our momentum. Failure is not an option under my leadership.”
Tinubu at the event promoted three security officials – the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet, the Commander of the Brigade of Guards, and his Chief Personal Security Officer – citing their “loyalty and dedication to duty.”
