Three lawmakers of the Kaduna State House of Assembly – Henry Mara, Emmanuel Kantiok, and Samuel Kambai – have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers announced their defection form the PDP to APC in their various wards on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Mara who represents Jaba constituency said he left the PDP because over the past years, the party has lost its popularity and no longer aligns with his political ambition.
He said, “A major realignment in the power structure of the State House of Assembly is looming as we’re expecting more opposition to dump the PDP for APC.”
The trio also said that their defection is aimed at aligning with the feats achieved by Governor Uba Sani since assuming office as governor of Kaduna State.
For Kambai, who represents Zango constituency at the House of Assembly, the successes recorded by the state governor has eroded any form of animosity he might have had towards the APC.
He said, “Governor Uba Sani’s commendable achievements within two years are attributable to the decline in opposition parties.
“Southern Kaduna has been a stronghold of the opposition PDP since 1999 but today, that jinx has been altered by Governor Uba Sani’s credible leadership,” Kambai added.
However, Kantiok said the PDP in Kaduna has continued to face unprecedented challenges with the state experiencing heighten insecurity in the last eight years.
He, however, noted that the incumbent governor has since maintained peace as he promises to consolidate Sani’s existing achievement in Kaduna State.
