JUST IN: Tinubu hosts Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Owoade, at Aso Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday received the newly crowned 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, held shortly after the President’s closed-door session with service chiefs and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, marks the monarch’s first official visit to the President since his coronation on April 12, 2025.

Oba Owoade arrived at the Villa following Jumaat prayers and was ushered in for an audience with President Tinubu.

The visit also reaffirms the ongoing collaboration between the federal government and traditional rulers, especially in the areas of national unity, cultural heritage, and community engagement.

During the Alaafin’s coronation earlier in April, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettim, tasked the monarch with promoting the unity of the Yoruba people and strengthening the bonds that hold Nigeria together.

The meeting comes at a time when the country is navigating complex security and economic challenges, with many looking to traditional institutions to complement the government’s efforts in promoting peace and stability.

Oba Owoade’s visit is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the federal government and the traditional leadership of Yorubaland.
