President Bola Tinubu on Sunday held a private lunch meeting with his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, to discuss global developments and Africa’s position in a rapidly changing international environment.
“This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H. E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” Tinubu wrote on X.
The meeting comes amid Nigeria’s renewed push to deepen diplomatic, economic and security partnerships across Africa.
Nigeria and Rwanda have maintained warm bilateral relations, anchored on cooperation in diplomacy, trade, aviation, education, security and technology.
Both countries are signatories to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement and have publicly committed to boosting intra-African trade and economic integration.
In recent years, Nigeria and Rwanda have collaborated on aviation liberalisation, with Kigali-based RwandAir expanding routes into Nigeria following the reopening of Nigeria’s airspace under reciprocal agreements.
Rwanda has also looked to Nigeria’s large market and private sector strength, while Nigeria has drawn lessons from Rwanda’s post-genocide recovery, governance reforms and technology-driven public service delivery.
Kagame has previously visited Nigeria for bilateral talks and regional summits, while Nigerian officials have engaged Rwanda on security cooperation, innovation, digital governance and youth development.
