JUST IN: Tinubu, other govt officials arrive in Rome for Pope Leo’s inauguration

With the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 18, President Bola Tinubu and his entourage have arrived in Rome, Italy.

The president and his team of government officials arrived at the Vatican City on Saturday, May 17.

The event would take place at 10 am Rome time at the St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

In a statement released by the presidency, and his entourage landed at the Military Airport, Rome, at about 5.00 (local time).

Tinubu would be attending a solemn mass, which is expected to mark the beginning of the inauguration of the Pope.

The president was said to have been received at the airport by some government officials who were already in the city of Rome.

Tinubu is in Rome at the instance of Pope Leo, who invited him to the Vatican City for his inauguration.

The pope was recently elected as the leader of the Catholic Church following the death of Pope Francis.
