The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be enmeshed in a fresh crisis as five deputy national officers are raising allegations of marginalization and injustice.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the aggrieved officials are upset that they were excluded from the mainstream fold of the National Working Committee (NWC) since the current leadership was inaugurated in March 2022. The APC is led by former Nasarawa State governor and erstwhile Senator, Abdullahi Adamu.
The five deputies who have reportedly lodged complaints about their underestimation to the NWC are Bolaji Alabi Edu, deputy national legal adviser; Olufemi Akpedeyi, deputy national auditor; Jamalu Kabir, deputy national youth leader; Omorede Osifo-Marshall, deputy national treasurer; and Christopher Akpan, deputy national welfare secretary.
Part of their grievances is that while the national leadership has rebuffed entreaties to include them in the NWC, other five deputies, comprising the Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, Deputy National Financial Secretary, Hamma-Adama Ali Kumo, Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, and Deputy National Women Leader, Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, were drafted in.
The disgruntled deputies have also protested that they were sidelined when the national officers – including the deputies, got N50 million each as housing allowance.
Furthermore, they claim that brand new Lexus 570 jeeps or equivalent were gifted to all NWC members, leaving them out, adding that during the last struggle for control of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), the NWC only included their members in the PCC and excluded the other five national deputies.
