JUST IN: Tinubu’s spokesman embarks on first assignment as presidential envoy

Ajuri Ngelale, the spokesman of President Bola Tinubu has commenced his assignment as newly appointed Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action (SPEC) to the Nigerian leader.

Ngelale commenced his tenure with a significant engagement at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

He met with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, to discuss deepening collaboration on critical climate issues.

In a post on X following the meeting, Ngelale expressed his honour and enthusiasm for the role, stating, “Honoured to have exchanged views with UN DSG @AminaJMohammed on Tuesday at UN HQ, New York, during my first engagement as 🇳🇬’s Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action (SPEC). Deepening collaboration w/ critical stakeholders on these existential matters is top priority. 🍃”

Ngelale’s appointment and his immediate engagement with high-level UN officials indicate that he may have been eased out of his role as Tinubu’s spokesman.

There have been conflicting statements from him and another presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga in recent times.

As the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Ngelale will be instrumental in spearheading Nigeria’s climate policies and initiatives, ensuring they align with global efforts to combat climate change.

His role involves liaising with international bodies, stakeholders, and experts to drive sustainable and impactful climate action.
