The Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs, Ita Enang, has stepped down from his position to pursue his Akwa Ibom State governorship bid, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.
Enang served as special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly (Senate) between 2015 and 2019.
Subsequently, President Buhari appointed him as his aide on Niger Delta Affairs in 2019.
The Niger Delta is typically considered to be located within nine coastal southern Nigerian states, which include: all six states from the South South geopolitical zone, one state (Ondo) from South West geopolitical zone and two states (Abia and Imo) from South East geopolitical zone.
In a statement on Monday, obtained by this news medium, Edet Ekpenyong, media aide to Enang, said the 59-year-old is grateful to President Buhari for the opportunity to serve.
“The time has come. I intend to contest for the governorship of Akwa Ibom state on the platform of our party, the APC, for which I now seek nomination, having purchased and submitted the nomination and expression of interest forms.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation from office, to pursue gubernatorial electoral cause,” Enang said.
