The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Gombe State has nullified the victory of the incumbent Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abubakar Luggerewo, and ordered a rerun within the next 30 days.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Luggerewo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was defeated by Bashir Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a petition over the cancellation of results in polling units 001, 024 and 014 in Kumo East.
The tribunal, led by Justice Michael Ugar, held that the cancellation of the polling units by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was in error.
In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, the tribunal ordered a rerun in Kumo East 018 to ascertain the actual winner of the election.
In reaction, Luggerewo, in an interview with The Punch, assured that the APC would appeal the judgment.
“The next line of action is we are going to appeal,” he said.
