The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, has sacked two lawmakers representing the state in the House of Representatives.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the tribunal sacked Ibe Okwara of the Labour Party (LP) from the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency. The tribunal declared Dan Okeke of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.
The tribunal ruled that Okwara’s election did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act. The tribunal also ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Okwara and issue a fresh one to Dan Okeke.
In the second case, the tribunal sacked Emeka Nnamani of the LP from the Abia North/South Federal Constituency. The tribunal declared Alex Ikwechegh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election.
The tribunal ruled that Nnamani’s election was invalid because he did not have the requisite educational qualification to contest for the office. The tribunal also ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Nnamani and issue a fresh one to Alex Ikwechegh.
